If you have set foot inside a Six Flags park this year, like I have, you may have noticed signs celebrating a "45th Anniversary."
The exact anniversary is today, August 4, when Six Flags over Texas opened in 1961. Texas has been under six different governments, and officials originally called it "Texas under Six Flags," but some felt that the name might have been coined by Debbie Downer. The Arlington, TX park was among the first of many regional theme parks that would open across America in the next two decades.
